If you were to provide the template could I make a avatar for a collection? Just 1 “Skin” per say instead of all the different variations. Would love to get something like that together before you launch. Would be an easier way of integrating other communities long term as well without the big hassle of having a bunch of 1/1 characters

On 3rd Party Avatars:
I agree that during the bull, having so many integrations really helped get word of mouth/network effects. It makes sense that 'most didn't come back', because in a way, at any point in time, there was nothing to do once the 'event' or 'party' was over. Here is just one example, but there was also the azuki one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQeev92NaJc . Now, after that event, what could all those players do? Maybe 1 hour of questing, that was it. There was very little to retain players. Same with the azuki quest, great u did it, now what?
If you say the players never came back, you also need to compare it to people without NFT integrations. I think making a correlation there (could) be a misdirection...although I don't know. It felt like most people had at least 1 avatar, and I feel like they joined the game to test it out in some reguard.
Now, imagine if after they come to a party or quest, there is a huge gameplay loop for them to get sucked into? This could easily change things.
It makes sense that we forget about some of the lower tier avatars for sure, they were trash. But what about Kongz, Cyber Brokers, Nyan Cat, AAVEgotchi, Chimpers, etc? Ones that really had high effort put into them and looked awesome.
I agree that there is a dilemma with the combat and gear. Having the custom swing animation and holding of things is not viable for 3rd party integrations. Although, in reality, half the time you are just running around, where it is viable. I was thiking (and said ages ago), that you could just make it so you could equip the avatar and you still have the weapon and stats in the dungeon, and it would work technically, but agree it's kind of dodgy with animations and hitboxes (in look at feel--again it would work as per rug busters, but feel bad).
Therefore, the middle ground seems possible. Anywhere the custom animations are not really required, you could allow them. Could be fishing, mining, crafting, running around. But in combat zones etc, you need to use the in game ones. As people suggested, you could pull it back a bit, and only allow it in certain areas and Apartments.
A few things that were not fully explored: Competition between Collections. I suggested many times to have competitions between collections. Could have been as simple as "most top 100 players in leaderboard from a collection" or #1 player using a collection on leaderboard...or even the PvP tournament, why the hell didn't we have a collection vs collection single or double elim bracket...or at the very least some show matches, Kongz vs Chimpers? Winners get a statue somewhere in game, or a little club house (rememebr the token gated wizard tavern??) HUGE potential and social awareness lost right there IMO. The other thing is when people can make quests in the future, allowing their 3rd party avatars as NPCs in the quests would be a no brainer! Again, just helps bring in more players and communities, and with a fun game, they should stay this time. Staking of at least a Large is def an option also (Penthouse def nice, but could be too much--although would be a nice utility for Penthouse owners to rent it to them). Having some custom furniture for use for owners of specific collections would have been so cool also.
In General, I think it would be good to review the previous collections integrated on:
#1 Were the avatars good quality.
#2 Is the community and project still 'alive'/active.
#3 How many of the holders of the NFT played the game.
#4 How many of the holders are also Webb3 holders.
I would be happy to do a '1st pass' (or if u publish it somewhere, the community can chip in and do some research for you).
I would say #1 and 2 are probably the main thing.
Rememeber, the bull market is coming back. If you can build a game that has a high user retention, and good word of mouth, anything you can do to get the players in the door will help kick it off.

Strong agreement on this! I know the Webb team expressed that having other NFTs as avatars made things like armor and other in-game accessories hard to do. I think an easy solution for this is the pet/familiar/follower option that used to exist. Having a follower behind the user's avatar would still allow for the social interaction of being able to see "teammates" from the same collection in open spaces.
Additionally, allowing other NFT collections to be the avatar/appearance of NPCs would avoid that issue (NPCs don't get upgrades or change appearance, typically). Having other NFTs be "place-able" (probably not on public land area) as characters (NPCs) and use your AI chat engine to be able to talk to them (allow owner to define a "personality" prompt for them) would be an experience no other "gallery" or portfolio tool has.
